Apple TV has for some time now given you the ability to cross over your traditional subscription to digital. The single sign on feature would pull the eligible channels over to on demand apps.
Apple is now expanding that with a refined new version in AppleTV+. The first benefits for the new update will be the ability to subscribe to a la carte channels. These are traditional over the top services like Starz, Showtime, HBO, EPIX, CBS All Access, Smithsonian Channel, Tastemade, and Noggin. These will be open without additional apps beginning in May.
The more ambitious project for Apple will be all new, original content. This comes from world famous creators like Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Octavia Spencer, J.J. Abrams, Jason Momoa and more. They will be ad-free and on demand from any device on or offline.
We have yet to learn what the cost of the new AppleTV+ will be at this time. More information will be known this fall. Similar to the other announcements today it will be linked across iPhone, iPad and Apple TV and shared with others through Family Sharing. It also will be a new app experience for users of Samsung Smart TVs in the spring. Amazon Fire TV, LG, Roku, Song and VIZIO will have a version in the future as well.
