Since 2014 it has not been touched by Apple. It has been forgotten. Lost in the shuffle of iPads, Watches and MacBooks the Mac Mini is still made but pushed on the back shelf.
The Mac Mini is Apple’s small desktop computer that ships without a monitor. It only comes with a mouse and keyboard along with it. In 2014 it was a first for the line to allow for hardware expansions.
Mac Mini has always been popular for its lower cost compared to the MacBook line.
Now Bloomberg is reporting the Mac Mini will get a large boost in hardware. This update will even feature top of the end hardware with a Pro label. Could this be an updated version of the “Trash can” Mac Pro in a smaller form?
Apple has suffered with losses with selling only 3.7 million Macs in the third quarter. This is the lowest number of them shipping out since 2010. Many Apple fans have been upset with the lack of innovation from Apple in the traditional laptop/desktop department. Completion also has ramped up on Apple for in the education sector also with Chromebook leading the affordability way. Futuresource Consulting states that 60% of devices sent to school are Google Chromebook.
Time will tell for what Mac Mini has in store. It is looking like a busy fall for Apple.
