SiriusXM gobbles up Pandora for $3.5 billion

When the AppStore was first in it’s infancy the one of the default apps to install was Pandora. The internet radio service would make stations based on music you liked, with input taken into account of you did not enjoy a song. The popularity of Pandora has stuck around with it having 70 million users. Currently, most are using the ad supported version. With 5.6 million users paying to interruptions between songs.

That user base sounded to good for SiriusXM to pass up. Today it was announced the satellite radio company will purchased Pandora for $3.5 billion. SiriusXM in 2017 placed $480 million into Pandora in agreement to buy 19%.

Even with Pandora’s large user base things are not 100% sunshine and roses. The Verge states that in the first half of 2018 the company has lost $200 millions.

At the current time it looks like SiriusXM will keep Pandora at arms length. This is great nothing for loyalist. Now if we could just get Howard Stern on Pandora.
