It has been awhile since I have made a post like this. Or many in fact, I have been busier than normal it seems…maybe just nothing to say. Though I am back to say this. Take an hour to listen to this new album from Umphrey’s McGee.
They teased around five songs before it’s July 1st release, though the other nine new songs are just as top notch.
Two that stick out: Hiccups and Always October
I cannot wait to see how they take the changes over to the stage.
Listen to New Wings on 6/18/2022 at Red Rocks as the set 2 opener. Then the next night in Vail you can get I Don’t Know What I Want and So Much set 1.
When you listen to a band who’s main avenue for listening is live and on stage a studio album can give you a different perspective. Also it is a great way if you are new to a band to learn their music.
Yes, of course that makes sense right? The largest complaint I hear with improv/jam bands is that it can be hard to know what is a jam versus the actual song. Studio releases are the best way to learn those differences. So if you want to dip into a Phish, Grateful Dead, Umphrey’s McGee or Eggy start there.
Album of the Day 🎵: Grateful Dead - Crimson, White & Indigo (July 7, 1989, JFK Stadium, Philadelphia)
Look, I know what you’re saying. This kid only listens to the Dead. Kinda right. Though Spring/Summer is always my Dead phase. Something about being outside, friends and memories causes it to happen.
Though with that said I ❤️ some Brent Myland vocals and keys. Can tell they are having fun at this show. (See Iko Iko.)
It has been quiet awhile since I have seen them live. Was drawn into their music first by the fact Jake Cinninger from Umphrey’s McGee assisted in producing/recording their album Jambands Ruined My Life. Great to see they’re still putting out music.
Album of the Day 2 🎵🎸: Eggy - Eggy Selects: Winter Tour 2022
I will be just be completely honest about this. I love these guys since hearing about them. I had time to listen to a second album today, so I had to share it also! Also this is free to stream on Spotify. Yesterday’s suggestion were two pay sites. Please enjoy!
